Our focus at The Priory School is to prepare pupils for the future. As part of this approach, we offer a variety of qualifications which will enhance opportunities in life and provide a firm foundation for post-16 education.
Functional Skills
Using Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills, we offer qualifications in English, Mathematics and ICT from Entry 1 to Level 2. They are designed to develop and demonstrate the practical skills needed in real-life situations. They are also an accepted part of all Apprenticeship standards and frameworks in England.
Entry Pathways
Through WJEC, pupils prepare portfolios in a range of KS4 subject areas (Entry 2 / Entry 3). This includes their subject choices at KS4 and, through the KS4 curriculum, looking at preparation for work and life in the community.
Entry Level Certificate in Science
Using the AQA syllabus, the ELC builds on the core scientific concepts and skills taught at Key Stage 3 and builds pupils’ confidence in science. Biology, Chemistry and Physics units are taught and assessed during Year 9 and Year 10.
Sports Leaders Qualification
As an option within the KS4 curriculum, pupils can take the Sports Leaders course to gain a Level 1 or Level 2 qualification. Pupils will learn and demonstrate important life skills such as effective communication and organisation whilst learning to lead basic physical activities to younger people, their peers, and within the community.
GCSE
For those pupils working at the appropriate level, we offer English and Mathematics at GCSE using the AQA syllabus. Examinations take place in the summer series of the exam cycle.
Due to the Covid-19 situation this year, all GCSE exams have been cancelled.
Along with other schools and colleges in the country, the Head Teacher and GCSE Teachers are providing calculated results to the exam boards based on assessments and classwork plus their knowledge and understanding of their students. The calculated results will then be assessed by the exam boards through a standardisation statistical process agreed with Ofqual. GCSE results will be available on Thursday, 20 August 2020 - all GCSE results will be emailed to parents.

We hold an awards evening at the school mid-November to celebrate the achievements of our students and to present them with their certificates. Due to the present Covid-19 situation, it is unlikely that this will take place in November 2020. Parents or students will be advised when the certificates are available to be collected from the school or posted using recorded delivery.
Please contact school if you would like more in-depth information about the qualifications we offer.
